Earlier this month, Coatesville native Calvin Grove, who won the IBF featherweight title three decades ago, was inducted into the New Jersey Boxing Hall of Fame, writes Ryan Songalia for The Ring magazine.
Grove, who won his title by knocking out Antonio Rivera in France, fought in Atlantic City 32 times in the 1980s.
“It’s good to see that somebody cares,” said Grove.
During his career, which spanned from 1982 to 1998, Grove fought 59 times and shared the ring with big names like Azumah Nelson and Jeff Fenech.
Today, Grove passes his boxing knowledge onto the younger generations he brings to Phoenixville to train.
At the induction ceremony, Grove was accompanied by family and friends, including his girlfriend and future wife, Kim.
“She keeps me in order,” said Grove. “I’m just happy with her, and next year is the big day.”
