Coatesville High School marching band, The Marching Red Raiders, won the State Championship at the Cavalcade of Bands Championship earlier this month in Allentown, according to a staff report from Daily Local News.
The band took the honors with a score of 90.5 out of 100 in the Yankee A Division. This was made up of six local high school bands including Abington, Governor Mifflin, Kennett, Central Bucks West, and Penn Wood. The Marching Red Raiders also won the High Auxiliary and High Overall Effect awards.
The bands are judged on several criteria such as show idea creativity, drill design complexity, execution of the music and drill, and the overall effect.
For this year, the Coatesville band’s show was called “Yes I Can!” For the performance, members of the band used times in their lives where fear and doubt could have taken over, but instead they pushed through to success.
“It always is amazing to see what our students are capable of,” said Band director Gabriel Hughes. “I’m very proud of them and can’t wait to see what they will do in the future.”
