Catholic Social Services of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia and Veterans Multi-Service Center are helping reduce veteran homelessness through Operating Base Cecilia in Coatesville, writes Gina Christian for Catholic Philly.
The location, formerly St. Cecilia School, offers a range of supportive services to veterans, such as homeless outreach, food and clothing assistance, counseling, and life skills courses. The non-residential center helped more than 200 homeless veterans in Chester and neighboring counties last year.
The operation recently received a Christmas present from the DNB First Bank in Downingtown in the form of a $3,000 donation. DNB executive vice president and chief banking officer, Vince Liuzzi, said honoring veterans is his priority.
“With veteran loan programs, we try to create opportunities for people of service, who have given of themselves so selflessly, an opportunity to enjoy the dream of home ownership,” he said.
Many veterans, including Vernon Fountain, who served throughout the U.S., Europe, and Korea, appreciate the efforts at Operating Base Cecilia.
“They’ve helped me with food, with a place to stay, with transportation, with my budget,” said Fountain. “I’m very grateful.”
