Some children in Chester County enjoyed a longer weekend after schools were closed on Friday due to inclement weather, but not those in Downingtown, Owen J. Roberts, Phoenixville, and Great Valley, writes Ginger Dunbar for the Daily Local News.
Those schools chose to implement a two-hour delay on Friday instead of completely closing their doors for the day.
“We were ready to roll, but planned on a two-hour delay,” said Downingtown spokeswoman Patricia McGlone.
McGlone said that both members of the facilities department and the bus company drove on the roads through the area to determine if they were passable.
“Closing and delaying school is not a decision that any superintendent takes lightly,” said Cathy Taschner, Coatesville’s Superintendent. “As educators, we have all dedicated ourselves to the education of children, and the safety of children and staff is always our priority.”
