Malvern Prep sophomore Lonnie White Jr., a Coatesville resident, has verbally committed to continuing his baseball career at Clemson University, according to a report from Clemson Sports Talk.
A 6-foot-2, 195-pound outfielder, White batted .327 with 24 RBIs and 14 stolen bases as a freshman for the Friars.
White is the No. 2 baseball prospect in Pennsylvania for his class, according to Prep Baseball Report. He boasts blazing speed, having been clocked at 6.58 seconds in the 60-yard dash.
“Lonnie is just a special athlete; he might be the best pure athlete Malvern’s ever seen,” Malvern Prep baseball coach Freddy Hilliard said of White, who also plays football and basketball for the Friars. “He is so physically blessed with great speed, strong arm, explosive swing, and incredible instincts.
“The sky is the limit for him, and we look forward to seeing him continue to develop.”
